The Facts
• Air/water
heat pumps extract heat from the ambient air, even with
temperatures as low as -5’C they can achieve flow
temperatures of 50’C.
• Collectors do not need to be buried and bore holes do
not need to be drilled – so no expensive groundwork.
• There are two mains types of Air source heat pumps,
a stand alone outdoor unit which you connect 22mm heating water
pipes to or a split type, where a system boiler type unit is
installed indoors with a condensing unit outdoors and refrigerant
pipe work between the two units, this refrigerant pipes can
be run up to 40m away from the indoor unit.
• More and more Air source heat pumps units are becoming
available, as air/water heat pumps represent an important renewable
energy technology for the future. The UK enjoys a relatively
mild winter climate and therefore air to water heat pumps can
be considered for all the heating and hot water needs.
