Rainwater harvesting simply collects the rain water which falls onto roofs, This water is then collected by the down pipes and drains and filtered before entering a collection tank, the size of the collection tank for domestic applications ranges from 2000 – 5000 litres. When required, the water is then pumped to the point of use, either by a submersible pump in the collection tank or by a self priming pump situated inside the house. The main objective to the system is to give priority to the use of rain water over that of the mains water. When the rain water contained in the collection tank is insufficient the control unit passes to the mains water supply thereby ensuring a flow of water is always maintained.
